Consulgal team visits Paúl WTP – Phase II

Consulgal, as the project designer, visited the works for this remodelling/expansion which aims to maintain the quality of the water that Águas do Centro Litoral supplies to the municipality of Leiria.

The contract for the Paúl WTP – Phase II, Borehole and L9 Interconnection Pipeline, with an investment value of close to 4 million euros, consists of the implementation of a raw water remineralisation stage and the construction of treatment stages to correct the ‘aggressiveness of the raw water’.

In addition to this renovation, the construction of borehole L9 and its corresponding pumping pipeline is also included, which aims to give the catchment system ‘greater resilience and reliability’.

The raw water from this subsystem has a very low level of mineralisation and a low pH. At the moment, a temporary system has been installed to increase the pH of the treated water by injecting sodium carbonate.
This contract includes a structured stage of remineralisation of the raw water.

It also involves strengthening the treatment stages and controlling the analytical results in terms of parameters related to the acidity and mineralisation of the treated water for a nominal flow rate’ of 950 cubic metres per hour.

The Paul WTP is part of the Mata do Urso water subsystem and is prepared to treat water for the entire municipality of Leiria, for around 128,640 inhabitants.
