CONSULGAL is an international reference in the management of transport infrastructure engineering projects.

With an experienced and multidisciplinary team, CONSULGAL provides services in studies, design, works supervision, technical assistance and engineering consultancy and specialized project management of transport infrastructures for ports and airports, metros, railways, roads, works of art and special structures, from the design stage to the on-site stage of technical assistance during construction works.


In Portugal, CONSULGAL has a vast portfolio of transport infrastructures works.

The company was responsible for project management of the expansion of the iconic Madeira Airport considered one of the most complex works of art executed in the world in recent decades, and for the supervision of the modernization works of the Lisbon, Porto and Faro Airports, as well it was the designer of the Beja Airport. CONSULGAL was involved in supervising the reinforcement works of the structures of the 25 de Abril bridge in Lisbon and D. Luis I bridge in Porto, to support new railway crossings. The company also supervised the construction works of the Intermodal Orient Station in Lisbon and still carries out its operation and maintenance services. The complete project management for the implementation of Metro do Porto network was also made by CONSULGAL, as well as other works supervision contracts for Metro de Lisboa and the design of the Metro Sul do Tejo. There were also many contracts regarding works supervision of several roads and highways in Portugal like the A4 and A23 highways, and railway project contracts carried out like several studies for high-speed lines, project designs for the modernization of the Northern Line and the Sines line and supervision works of the North-South Railway and of several lines in the Lisbon and Porto regions.

CONSULGAL has a strong international presence regarding Transport infrastructures.

In Europe, the company supervised the works in Budapest, Hungary, for the modernization of the airport and of the Line 2 of the Metro, as well as two highways in Romania. In Latin America, several works supervision and project design contracts were executed for the Metro of São Paulo, Brazil, as well as design contracts for a river port and works supervision of roads in Peru. In Africa, there were works supervision contracts for the Airport and Porto da Praia in Cape Verde, and in Mozambique there was the Project Management of the Nacala Coal Port, including the Railway Corridor and the coal storage terminal project, and the new oil terminal at Porto da Beira. In Macau, CONSULGAL Group provided design and works supervision services for the light Metro rail, as well as the design review for the Sai Van Bridge and the works supervision of tunnels and viaducts.

Several of these projects received awards, such as the Madeira airport (SECIL Engineering Award in 2001 and the Outstanding Structures Award in 2004 by the IABSE (International Association for Bridge and Structural Engineering)), the Porto Metro network (Light Rail Award – Best System, in 2008, by the International Association of Public Transport (UITP)), and in Budapest both the metro and the airport received TIERNEY CLARK AWARD by the “Institution of Civil Engineers, Chamber of Hungarian Engineers and Association of Hungarian Consulting Engineers and Architects” in 2005 and 2010 respectively.
