Visit to the Construction Site of the Oeiras Mar Hub – IPMA Campus

The CONSULGAL team, responsible for the project, carried out a visit to the construction site of the Oeiras Mar – IPMA Hub building. This visit was an excellent opportunity to closely observe the progress of the work and discuss relevant aspects of the project.

We firmly believe that this type of interaction between designer and contractor is essential for the success of our projects. We would like to thank Traço d’Obra, represented by Engineer Francisco Soares, for all the support provided during the visit.

The Oeiras Mar Hub, part of the Collaborative Network for Ocean Technology, is being developed within the IPMA Campus in Algés, in a space adjacent to the main building. This new hub represents a unique opportunity to create a leading ecosystem for marine monitoring, exploration, and surveillance.

In this space, joint initiatives will be promoted to enhance connectivity, cooperation, and complementarity between entities linked to knowledge and innovation, fostering synergies with other laboratory initiatives in the marine area. It will also benefit from close access to the sea – preferably at Doca de Pedrouços – and the available naval resources, including research vessels and controlled environment experimentation.

The Oeiras Mar Hub will host three main functional units:

✔ Ocean Engineering Unit (UEO)
✔ Interface Unit with the Economic Sector (UISE)
✔ Liquid Sample Unit (UAML)

Complementary areas are also planned for multidisciplinary testing and operational teams, with activities in science, knowledge, and innovation, linked to the economic sector and with a direct impact on the growth of the blue economy.

The construction of the building, located on the riverside front of Algés, presented a high level of technical complexity, especially concerning the foundations, due to the landfill area over the rio Tejo.
